Our Class

2nd Class Room 2
2019-2020

GAA with Anthony
The class participated in GAA training with Anthony on a Tuesday morning, for 6 weeks. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Here are some pictures from our training sessions :)

Music with Helen Blackmore
The class had 3 sessions with Helen Blackmore from the Musician in Residence programme before Christmas, which were great fun! I've attached some new songs provided by Helen that you could practice at home!

Halloween
Here are some of the fantastic costumes we had in Room 2 for our Halloween sponsored walk back in October :)

Science Week
For Science Week back in November, all the little scientists in our class had great fun carrying out different experiments! We built standing structures from spaghetti and marshmallows, we designed and made parachutes to test different materials and we created unique paper aeroplanes to see which one could fly the furthest!

Learning about Mexico
The class loved learning all about Mexico - particularly the Day of the Dead Festival that they celebrate every year. Take a look at the sugar skull masks we created inspired by this festival!

Christmas Play
For our Christmas Play this year the class put on a production of 'Straw and Order'. I'm sure all parents and guardians will agree with me when I say that they put on a fantastic show! Their hard work and dedication to learning lines and songs payed off and I'm very proud of them :)

Christmas Jumper Day
On the 19th of December the school had their Christmas Jumper Day where we were lucky enough to have a visit from the local Garda Band, who brought along a special guest with them - Santa!

Sam Maguire Visit

After Dublin's historical All Ireland win back in October the Sam Maguire cup, along with Dublin player James Doran, came to visit the school. Everyone got to dress up in blue to celebrate their county!

World Book Day
World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday the 5th of March this year. We had some very clever and imaginative costumes and characters in Room 2 that day :)

Story Writing Competition
World Book Day inspired the school to run a story writing competition for all the 1st and 2nd classes. Everyone in Room 2 wrote fantastic stories that not only had interesting and intriguing plots but also showed off the narrative and grammar skills that we have been working on all year - well done! Ms. UaConaill collected up all the stories and decided the top three from each class. In our room, Finnian came 3rd, Jessica came 2nd and Evan came 1st - Congratulations! :)

Seachtain na Gaeilge
Just before the school closed we had been working on the 'Circle of Life' from the movie 'The Lion King' as Gaeilge, for our performance at the school's Seachtain na Gaeilge concert on Friday the 13th March. The class worked very hard at learning the words for the song and had perfected the performance just before we left. I have attached a link to the song incase you would like to practice or perform the song for your family at home :)

I hope you enjoy looking back over some of the fun we've had and the memories we've made in our class since the beginning of the year. Hopefully we will be back soon to make some more!

Stay safe,
Ms Brazill :)
